Orchid Show

February 13, 2017

It's only mid-February, but we can still think ahead to spring. March can still be quite cold, but toward the end we can usually start to see a change in the weather pattern. Of course spring means flowers. What better way to kick off spring a bit early than at the Orchid Show at the New York Botanical Garden. See beautiful hanging orchids in the conservatory, which will make you think of spring. There are also poetry readings, dance performances, orchid care demonstrations, and Orchid Evenings where you can sip a cocktail while viewing the show. The Orchid Show begins February 18 and runs through April 9. Enjoy!

New Year's Eve in Times Square

December 28, 2016

The New Year is right around the corner and it's time to start making plans. If you want to be where all the action is in Times Square then you should have a solid plan and even a back-up plan if your original plan doesn't work. It gets very crowded early in the day and there are certain security restrictions that prevent you from bringing large backpacks and alcohol. So if you want to drink champagne while celebrating, this may not be the activity for you. The best viewing areas fill up by early afternoon. However, once you are barricaded in, you cannot get your spot back and there are no public restrooms in the area, so make sure you go before or lose your spot. Also, make sure to check the weather and dress sensibly. If it's going to be very cold, dress in more layers than you think you'll need. For more tips and information, visit the website.

Rockefeller Center Tree Lighting Ceremony

November 28, 2016

Rockefeller center tree
The Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree will be lit for the first time this Wednesday. There will be live performances during the ceremony from 7-9pm. Of course it's difficult to get to and the crowds will be huge. It will also be televised for those who don't want to face the crowds. If you can't make it to see the tree on Wednesday, don't worry, it will remain lit until January 7 at 9pm. Enjoy!

Thanksgiving Day Parade and Balloon Inflation

November 18, 2016

If you're in New York City during Thanksgiving the Macy's Parade is a must for some. If you want a behind-the-scenes look you can watch the balloons being inflated from 3pm-10pm near the Natural History Museum on Wednesday.

You can view the parade live on Thursday anywhere along the route. The parade starts at 77th and Central Park West and follows the park south. Once getting to the bottom of the park the parade continues down 6th Avenue until finally reaching Macy's in Herald Square. The parade starts around 9am, but it's best to get there earlier for better viewing. Enjoy!

The annual Holiday Train Show at the New York Botanical Garden starts again this Saturday. Watch model trains zip along New York City landmarks like the Brooklyn Bridge, Rockefeller Center, Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, and more. This year's space is even bigger than previous years, making room for additional trains and tracks. The exhibit will be on display through January 16 and advance tickets are strongly recommended.

Also, don't forget about Bar Car Nights where those 21 and over can view it after dark with a complimentary cocktail. Have fun!
