Fourth of July in New York City!

In honor of the 4th of July this Saturday, the city has two events that honor Independence Day with a New York twist.  Early in the day, head to Coney Island to watch the annual Nathan's Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest. Then, once the sun has gone down, make your way to the Hudson River to witness the Macy's Fourth of July Fireworks.  Though the fireworks are usually on the East River, they're over the Hudson this year to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson's exploration of the river.

The First Annual Underground Big Apple Jazz Festival

 Jazz aficionados will be happy to hear of the First Annual Underground Big Apple Jazz Festival.  Yes, that's quite a mouthful.  The festival runs from June 26th to July 4th with a jam-packed schedule of New York's finest jazz musicians appearing at many hotspots around the city.  The public can buy tickets online for $30 which allows a person to take advantage of the numerous discounts at the performances, including free drinks and free cover charges at some places.  Check it out here.

Central Park Zoo

Who said that Central Park is just a park? You can take a ride in a gondola or you can also take your kids to the Central Park Zoo! You will find leopards, penguins, lemurs and much more! A new park in Manhattan: the High Line

The High Line is a new park that opened on June 8 in NYC! The High Line was a rail road that was built in the 1930s and stopped lifting freight traffic 30 feet in the air in 1980. Instead of demolishing this structure, they turned the High Line into a public park. The High Line is located on the West Side of Manhattan. The first section runs from Gansevoort Street to West 20th Street, between Tenth and Eleventh Avenues.

Summer Family Concert Series in Washington Market Park

Here are some concerts that will please both parents and their kids: Summer Family Concert Series will take place in Washington Market Park from June 18 to July 9.
