Starting May 31, 2009, MTA will raise subway and bus fares to $2.50. 7-day passes will increase from $25 to $31, 14-day passes from $47 to $59, and 30-day passes from $81 to $103! For more information, visit the MTA’s website.
Did you know that starting June 1, 2009, US citizens will need to show a travel document approved by the US government (passport book, passport card…) to enter the US from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda? As a result, the Department of State is sponsoring Passport Day on March 28, 2009. Good news! U.S. Interior Secretary Ken Salazar announced that they will do everything they can to reopen the Statue of Liberty’s Crown by the Fourth of July! Liberty Island, symbol of freedom, was closed to the public after September 11. They re-opened little by little the island, then the museum, the observation deck and up to the viewing gallery. So now, be ready to visit again the Crown of Lady Liberty!

The South Ferry Station has been closed since December and MTA has spent $530 to renovate this station. On March 16, 2009, the South Ferry subway station finally re-opened with a brighter, ADA-accessible terminal. For more information, visit the official website.
